DO NOT SKIP THIS SECTION: Different Skin Tones
While you might want to run to get one of the MAC blushes we recommended, it’s important to first understand the importance of knowing your skin tone so you can get the right MAC blush to compliment your skin.
Different shades will vary in appearance when applied to different skin tones.
1. Very Light or Fair Skin
Someone with a very light or fair skin tone would be very pale, and can even have an almost translucent look to their skin.
This allows the veins and underlying blood vessels to be more visible and would have a slightly rosy undertone.
This specific skin tone is low in melanin which is responsible for skin color, and is susceptible to sunburn.
People with fair skin typically have warm, peachy undertones, giving a subtle hint of pink or peach, but they can also have cool or neutral undertones.
Fair skin is often associated with freckles, and typically have light-colored eyes, such as blue or green.
2. Light to Light-Medium Skin
This skin tone falls between very fair light skin and medium skin.
These skin tones often have a moderate amount of melanin, and typically have a fair or pale base color with a subtle hint of warmth or color.
3. Medium or Olive Skin
This skin tone typically falsl in the middle of the skin color spectrum and can vary in appearance and characteristics based on an individual’s ethnicity, genetics, and exposure to sunlight.
Medium skin tones can have warm, cool, or neutral undertones.
Some medium skin tones may appear slightly olive or beige in color and tans easily.
An olive skin tone typically has warm undertones which means it often has hints of yellow, peach, or golden hues.
The most distinctive characteristic of olive skin is the subtle greenish or olive undertone that can give a slightly tan appearance even without sun exposure.
This skin tone has a higher melanin content, which provides natural protection against sunburn.
4. Medium to Dark Skin
This skin tone is characterized by a significant amount of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color.
Medium to dark skin tones often have a radiant and glowing quality, which can make the skin look healthy and vibrant and can vary in shades depending on an individual’s ethnic background and genetics.
Dark skin tones have a wide range of beautiful and unique shades, each with its own beauty and character.
What are the Different undertones?
Undertones refer to the subtle hues that exist beneath the surface of your skin.
Understanding your undertone is very important to picking out any blush whether it’s the best MAC blush or any makeup products!
It can even be helpful when choosing the perfect shade of clothing, jewelry, or hair colors that would compliment your complexion.
1. Warm Undertones
Warm undertones often have hints of yellow, peach, or golden hues.
A good way to see if you have a warm undertone is to look at the veins on the inside of your wrist.
Do they appear more green? If so, you have a warm undertone.
Tip: Warm undertones generally look good in earthy tones, and warm shades like oranges, reds, yellows, and warm neutrals.
2. Cool Undertones
Cool Undertones tend to have pink, rosy, or bluish hues.
The veins on the inside of your wrist may appear more blueish or purple.
Tip: Cool undertones usually work well with cool shades like blues, purples, pinks, and cool neutrals.
3. Neutral Undertones
Neutral undertones strike a balance between warm and cool hues. They may not appear distinctly green or blueish.
Tip: Neutral undertones can wear a wide range of colors, including both warm and cool shades.

How to Apply Blush
Use the appropriate brush, sponge, or your fingers to apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks.
When applying cream blush you can either use a dense stipple brush, your finger, or a sponge.
Whichever applicator you use, dip it into the product and gently pat it out onto the apples of your cheek. You can repeat and layer the product if you desire a more dramatic look.
To apply Powder Blush, use a blush brush (my favorites are down below) and swirl it around in the product, tap off the excess powder, and apply it to the apples of your cheeks.
Repeat that process if you want more color.
